One month in Sousse on a research project connected to Tunisia, with circus named among the disciplines.
A month at the Villa Salammbô in Sousse, run by the Institut français de Tunisie, for a research and creation project connected to the Tunisian territory. Circus is named explicitly, alongside theatre and puppetry.
Eligibility here is about where you live rather than what passport you hold, and it has an unusual shape: France, or the African continent minus Tunisia, or Tunisia if you apply in a duo.
The villa sits in the centre of Sousse and hosts creators across many disciplines, including theatre, puppetry and circus. Selected artists spend one month developing a research project connected to Tunisia.
The residency includes artistic accompaniment, introductions to Tunisian artists and professionals, and visibility for the project with the local community through meetings and workshops.
A duo files one joint application rather than two.
- ·French or foreign artists living in metropolitan France, or on the African continent excluding Tunisia.
- ·Tunisian artists, on condition that they apply in a duo with a French artist or an artist based in France.
- ·You have to be already established in a professional path and able to show previous work.
- ·You need French, plus either English or Arabic.
- ·The project has to be research connected to the Tunisian territory. A residency proposal with no link to the place is off brief.
- ·Disciplines are wider than these three, but theatre, puppetry and circus are the three the Institut names.
