Up to $20,000 for a Montreal organisation or museum to host an Indigenous artist in residence, at a fee set by the highest standards in the sector.
A Montreal organisation receives up to $20,000 to host an Indigenous artist in residence, and the budget has to include a fee paid at the highest standards in the cultural sector.
If you run a company, you can file this yourself: the mission condition is research, creation, production or diffusion in the arts, so a circus or dance company qualifies. If you are self-employed with no company, you are not the applicant, you are looking for the organisation that will be, and this is the number to name when you talk to them.
The host receives up to $20,000 and runs everything: the call for applications if the artist is not already chosen, the selection, the scheduling, the coordination, and the fee.
The length is set by what the artist needs, not by the programme. The support is one-off and does not repeat.
Eligible work covers research and creation, production, developing an artistic practice, accompaniment and artistic collaboration. The host commits to working closely with CAM's Indigenous arts cultural adviser and its Indigenous arts committee, which keeps a say over who is selected, and to a post-mortem meeting and a final report.
- ·THE APPLICANT IS AN ORGANISATION, and a circus or dance company qualifies. The mission condition is research, creation, production or diffusion in the arts, or representing artists and cultural workers in a discipline or the multidisciplinary sector. It can already be funded by CAM or be applying for the first time.
- ·The organisation has to be a non-profit corporation or a non-profit cooperative that pays no dividend, with its head office on the island of Montreal, and a board that is majority Canadian citizens or permanent residents. A for-profit incorporated company does not qualify.
- ·Not eligible: individual artists with no organisation, unincorporated artist collectives, collectives that have incorporated as a company or partnership whether for profit or not, artists' agents, general partnerships, teaching and training organisations, public and parapublic bodies, organisations working exclusively in variety and comedy, and those working exclusively in cultural mediation.
- ·The resident artist must be a First Nations, Inuit or Métis artist of Canada, living in Canada, recognised by peers or by their community as continuously engaged in their practice, traditional or contemporary, and working professionally.
- ·The selected artist has to create an ORORA profile and complete the self-identification tab and the final report.
- ·A residency that finishes before CAM answers is not eligible, and the answer comes five to six weeks after the deadline.
- ·Circus is on the eligible discipline list, with street arts, digital arts, film and video, dance, literature, music, theatre, visual arts, non-disciplinary practices and the multidisciplinary sector.
