Two months in Guadeloupe writing a play, with accommodation, a workspace and dramaturgical support included.
Two months in Guadeloupe between March and June 2027, writing one theatre text, with a $9,500 bursary and accommodation and a workspace provided. Theatre only, and Québec playwrights only.
The host is Textes en paroles, which has been building a repertoire of contemporary Caribbean playwriting since 2003. The exchange runs both ways: a Guadeloupean writer is hosted in Québec by Le Jamais Lu.
The residency is two months long, scheduled between March and June 2027 according to the host's availability. Textes en paroles provides accommodation and a workspace free of charge, and professional dramaturgical support with regular exchanges across the stay.
You can take part in cultural mediation activities, talk about your process and present extracts. Where the calendar allows, the stay can end with a public reading or a presentation of extracts, which puts the text in front of an audience for the first time.
The bursary is $9,500 and covers your personal insurance, travel including visa costs, living costs and the production costs of the project. No detailed budget is required with the application. Getting whatever travel documents the stay needs is on you.
- ·Québec playwrights. The eligible discipline is theatre, and only theatre.
- ·More than two years of practice. This is an international residency and CALQ sets that floor.
- ·Legally constituted companies and partnerships are not eligible, and neither are projects carried out as part of a school programme or projects CALQ has already refused.
- ·CALQ strongly recommends attaching a few paragraphs summarising the project in English or in the language of the host country.
