Up to $20,000 for a project built with a partner in Centre-du-Québec.
CALQ runs a separate project fund for every region of Quebec, and the Centre-du-Québec round closes on 6 October. Arts du cirque is the first discipline on its eligible list.
The condition that rules most people out is geography, not artistic merit. Your principal residence has to be in the territory, and the project has to formally involve a partner from it.
The money comes from an agreement between CALQ and ten regional partners: the MRCs of Arthabaska, Bécancour, Drummond, Nicolet-Yamaska and L'Érable, the towns of Bécancour, Drummondville, Victoriaville and Nicolet, and Culture Centre-du-Québec.
It supports creation, production and diffusion projects that connect the work to the local population. Eligible costs include your own creation fees, research, expertise and fees for collaborating artists, studio rental, materials, equipment rental, travel, accommodation, per diems and promotion.
The ceiling is $20,000 and it cannot exceed 80% of the total project cost. The remaining share has to come from the project partners, in money or in services. The project cannot start before the deadline date, and CALQ replies three to four months after it.
- ·Professional artists and writers in any discipline CALQ supports. The programme lists arts du cirque, multidisciplinary arts, digital arts, visual arts, song, film and video, dance, literature and storytelling, music, métiers d'art, architectural research and theatre.
- ·Your principal residence must be in an MRC or municipality covered by the agreement.
- ·For circus, you need at least one independent production outside or after your training, presented in a context recognised by your peers.
- ·A collective can apply, but one named person submits, receives the grant and manages the project and budget.
- ·The project must involve at least one regional partner. Without that, it is not eligible.
- ·Staff of the partner organisations cannot apply. Neither can a legally constituted company: this is a grant to an individual.
