CAM's Regard sur Montréal film residency opens with $75,000 and a 23 September deadline.

The Conseil des arts de Montréal has opened Résidence en cinéma - Regard sur Montréal, a documentary residency for emerging filmmakers from diverse backgrounds. Applications close 23 September 2026, at 5pm.

The residency funds a short documentary on the theme Regard sur Montréal, worth $75,000 in financial support and services. That covers research and script writing, pre-production, shooting in Montreal, and offline and online editing.

It runs as a partnership between CAM, the Société de développement des entreprises culturelles (SODEC), the National Film Board of Canada through its ACIC programme, and the documentary organizations Les Films de l'Autre and RIDM.

Eligible applicants are culturally diverse emerging professional filmmakers who have completed at least one audiovisual work already shown in a professionally recognized context. The finished film is due by October 2027.

Circus has a real documentary tradition, from tour diaries to backstage process pieces. This is a funded route to make one, if the filmmaker's own background and the subject fit the programme's diversity mandate.
