FAI-AR is recruiting fourteen apprentices for 2027 to 2029, and the concours closes on 15 January

DEADLINE15 JANUARY 2027

FAI-AR, the street arts training centre at the Cité des arts de la rue in Marseille, has opened the concours for its twelfth cohort. The window runs from 18 September 2026 to 15 January 2027, for fourteen places, with the training itself from early September 2027 to the end of June 2029, in Marseille and on the road. No closing time of day is published. Files are read 15 to 19 February 2027 and auditions run 15 to 19 March 2027.

The prerequisites, from the school's dossier pédagogique, are four. Command of French spoken and written, at C1 attested on entry. Command of an artistic discipline. Proven experience of making work. And a licence-level degree, with an equivalence possible through Aix-Marseille Université's teaching commission for someone with a substantial professional track record instead. Candidates also have to have reached legal majority in France by the time the training starts.

Circus artists are named, not implied. The profiles the school is looking for open with performers, listing comédien·ne, danseur·euse, circassien·ne, musicien·ne, conteur·euse and performeur·se·s, then creators, then city professionals: architects, urbanists, landscape architects and geographers. It remains a street arts school, and the qualification is in authoring work for public space rather than in circus technique.

The costs are published as four lines. Thirty euros to apply, 250 euros to register with FAI-AR, and a university registration for each of the two years: 272 euros a year on the row the school heads ressortissant·e·s euro, 3,950 euros a year on the row headed extra-euro. Those amounts are set by Aix-Marseille Université, given for 2026, and the school notes they can change between year one and year two.

Apprenti·e is the school's own word, borrowed from the Bauhaus, and it is worth knowing what it does not mean. During the training each person holds the status of stagiaire de la formation professionnelle continue plus student status. There is no apprenticeship contract and no salary from the school. The two routes to income the dossier names are a public internship payment from the Région and unemployment benefit through France Travail, both French mechanisms. Anyone arriving from outside France should ask the school about those two, and about visas, before counting on either.

Graduates leave with an establishment diploma as auteur·e et réalisateur·rice de projets artistiques en espace public, and a Master 2 Arts, parcours arts de la scène, awarded by AMU. Before any of that, three online information sessions run at 18h on 30 September, 27 October and 23 November, and an open day with a masterclass runs at the Cité des arts de la rue on 26 October, 9h30 to 17h30.
